Events at Calvary
Throughout the year, Calvary plans several special events. Please contact us if you would like more specific information.
Missions Convention
Our Missions Convention is a month of highlighting personal involvement with missions through prayer, through giving and through going. We highlight local and world missions with the emphasis on the 10/40 window.
Join us November 18 - 20, when special guest Lance Stoddard, the missions directory for Bethel Temple, will be with us to focus on our missions theme Finish His Work. Seminars will be held on Friday from 7 - 9 pm and Saturday from 8 am until noon.
About the 10/40 window
The core of the unreached people groups of our world live in a rectangular shaped area on a world map known as the 10/40 window. It extends from northwest Africa
across Asia, between 10 degrees and 40 degrees north of the equator and spans approximately 60 countries. It is the darkest, neediest, and most difficult region
to reach on the face of the earth. Only supernatural power released through prayer can begin to open this window.
An Unreached People Group is a people group that:
• has not been presented the Gospel message, and/or
• does not have God's Word in their language, and/or
• does not have access to God's Word - perhaps because of illiteracy, and/or
• has not responded to the Gospel.
Christmas
We love to celebrate the gift of our Heavenly Father gave to the world through Jesus Christ. There are many ways that we celebrate while helping others to
know the joy of Christ. For instance, our youth ministry sponsors Christmas tree sales wherein all money earned goes directly to support our teen programs.
Children's church sponsors Operation Christmas Child, a ministry that provided small gifts, toys and toiletries to children in third world countries and
countries ravaged by war. Women's Ministries sponsors a Christmas Banquet for women to enjoy. And Men's Ministries sponsors an Angel Tree event, an
event that provides the children of incarcerated men and women with the gifts and celebration that their parents would intend for them. Additionally,
Calvary holds a Christmas Eve candle light service, an intimate service of worship, singing and performance arts aimed at honoring the birth of Jesus Christ.
This year, our Angel Tree Celebration will be held on Monday, December 19, and the Women's Ministry Banquet will be served on Monday, December 5 at the Pasta Pelican. For more information on these events, or on Operation Christmas Child or any other Christmas activity at Calvary, please contact us.
Easter
There's more to Easter than egg hunts and fuzzy bunnies. Easter time is a time to celebrate Christ's death and resurrection, the payment that Jesus made in
order to make our spiritual lives debt, and death free. At Calvary we celebrate this truth through a special Easter celebration, which includes performing
and visual arts segments woven into a pertinent message from our pastors.
July 4th
Each year we create unique floats, choreographed dance routines and multi-media presentations to honor our nation's independence in the Annual Alameda
Mayor's Parade. Throughout the summer we work on the presentations together as a church, building our community in Christ.
Halloween
Halloween can be a scary time for children, filled with ghouls, witches and demons. But at Calvary, we've taken a different, Christ honoring focus. The
Halloween carnival is an annual event aimed at providing a safe alternative to the traditional focus of October 31st for all children and families of the
community. With games, prizes, balloons, and all kinds of fun, children and families are guaranteed to enjoy themselves at this free event. In fact,
last year we hosted over 300 children and 200 adults. We gave out over 300 LBS of candy, 500 bags of popcorn, and over 500 glow sticks and balloons.
